Dominica Citizenship for the Family in 2026: Spouse, Children, Parents and Grandparents

Most of my clients do not apply alone. They want the spouse, the children and often the parents on one plan. Dominica is generous with families, but the definitions are precise, and the price depends on who exactly is in the file. Below are the rules from the CBIU FAQ as of October 2026.
Who counts as a dependant
| Family member | Condition |
|---|---|
| Spouse | Legally married to the main applicant |
| Child under 18 | Of the main applicant or the spouse |
| Child 18 to 30 | Studying at a recognised higher education institution and fully supported |
| Unmarried daughter under 25 | Living with and fully supported by the main applicant or spouse |
| Child 18 and over with a disability | Physically or mentally challenged and fully supported |
| Parents and grandparents | Of the main applicant or the spouse, over 65, substantially supported |
A child means a biological or legally adopted child. The CBIU clarifies that a child who is 30 can be included, but not one who has turned 31. Brothers and sisters are not on the official list.
What it costs per family member
On the EDF route the contribution is $200,000 for one person and $250,000 for the main applicant with up to three dependants, according to the CBIU fee schedule published by BRIDGES. On the real estate route the government fee rises from $75,000 to $100,000 for up to four people. Beyond four, each additional dependant under 18 adds $25,000 and each additional dependant aged 18 and over adds $40,000.
Per-person fees:
- due diligence $4,000 for each dependant aged 16 and over;
- certificate of naturalisation $500 per person;
- interview $1,000 for each person aged 16 and over.
Example. A couple, two children aged 17 and 20 (the elder studying), and the husband’s mother aged 68 is five people. On the EDF route: $250,000 + $40,000 for the fifth person aged 18+ = $290,000 contribution, then $1,000 processing, $7,500 + 4 × $4,000 due diligence, $2,500 certificates and $5,000 interviews. Official total: $322,000. This is my calculation from the published tables.
Practical points for each group
Spouse. You need the marriage certificate, and the spouse goes through the same checks and interview. If either of you was married before, prepare divorce papers.
Children 18 to 30. Prepare a letter from the university confirming full-time study and proof that you support the child financially. Check that the child is still under 31 when the file is submitted.
Unmarried daughters under 25. The rule is specific to daughters who live with the family and are fully supported. Proof of the shared address helps.
Parents and grandparents. They must be over 65, and you need to show that you substantially support them, for example through bank transfers. A parent of 64 cannot be included yet.

Children born later
The CBIU allows a main applicant to add a minor child, biological or adopted, after citizenship, with no time limit. BRIDGES notes that this replaced an older five-year limit. The child goes through a short application with fees.
My advice
Decide the family composition before the first payment and check every age against the date of submission. The most painful case is a child who turns 31 or a parent who is 64 at the wrong moment. If a sibling must come along, plan a separate application from the start. The cost guide gives more family examples, and the application guide lists the documents for each member.
Questions and answers
Can I include my parents?
Yes, if they are over 65 and substantially supported by you or your spouse. Parents and grandparents of either spouse qualify.
Up to what age can children be included?
Children under 18 always qualify. Children aged 18 to 30 qualify if they study at a recognised higher education institution and are fully supported by you. A child who is 30 can be included, a child who has turned 31 cannot.
Can I add a baby born after citizenship?
Yes. The CBIU allows a minor child, biological or adopted, to be added after citizenship with no time limit.
Can siblings be included?
The CBIU list of dependants does not include brothers and sisters. A sibling would need a separate application.
